FULL-TIME NANNY
This is a caregiver whose focus is directed solely on the welfare and well being of the child in your home. In the case of older children light household duties and/or errands may be required. Most frequently, the nanny cares for the children in the family’s home and all domestic tasks relating to the children. Some Nannies have formal training others do not, though usually both have a great deal of experience.
GOVERNESS
This caregiver is also a qualified educator for school age children. Typically, these candidates possess a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a child education related major. They plan and implement structured goals and objectives for the child’s mental, emotional, physical, intellectual and developmental growth.
NANNY/MANAGER
As children enter school, a full-time nanny is no longer needed. Children need a professional who can drive them to and from school, organize after-school activities, run errands, grocery shop and provide supervision. Some of these caregivers will have the evening meal ready following your family’s favorite recipes.
HOUSEHOLD MANAGER
A Household Manager assists with the daily tasks related to the management of a formal or multi-staffed household without supervision. This individual usually does have some type of formal training and/or extensive experience skilled in a management role. Duties may include some or all of the housekeeping.
HOUSEKEEPER
A housekeeper’s primary responsibility is performing the heavy cleaning and the daily keeping of a home neat and presentable. The specific duties and skills will depend on the size of the home and the housekeepers experience level. They can be highly skilled in cleaning, laundry, and household maintenance.
HOUSEMAN/CARETAKER
This position may include more of the “hands on” duties for daily care of the home. The responsibilities can vary greatly depending on the type of household and employer requirements. This candidate should have knowledge of general maintenance. Duties could include heavy cleaning, light yard work, painting and attending to “handyman” type jobs that need to be taken care of.
MAID/LAUNDRESS
Experienced in housekeeping and laundering. Primary duties would include: washing, ironing, and possibly mending of family garments and household linens, and knowledge of caring, storing and handling of fabrics.
BUTLER
This candidate is formally trained or has extensive experience. Often the butler assumes many different roles; serving meals, answering phones and the door, organizes parties, can supervise staff and may provide valet duties as well as some light housekeeping. A “polished” butler will see and anticipate the needs of their employer and maintain the highest standards of service.
ESTATE MANAGER
This candidate would be experienced in executive estates over 20,000 square feet and possibly the management of other properties of the client. Duties include full-time management of the estate and other properties, supervising domestic staff as well as vendors, suppliers and subcontractors. Some estate managers also maintain the financial accounts, scheduling preventative maintenance for the home and autos, and in general making sure that his/her employer’s life is as carefree as possible.
PERSONAL ASSISTANT
This position is also known as a Social Secretary, Family Assistant, or Executive Assistant. This employee could work closely with the House Manager or employer. Duties would include keeping of the family agenda, arranging travel reservations, personal shopping, attending to the needs of houseguests and general secretarial duties.
COUPLE
Both these positions take on the responsibility of running the entire household. They usually are a live-in position. Duties for the man would include automobile care and servicing, grounds maintenance, driving and handy man jobs. For the woman duties could include housekeeping, cooking, childcare and possibly staff management. Again, these duties vary according to the couple’s experience and the clients needs.
PRIVATE CHEF
This candidate is usually formally trained. They would shop for all groceries, plan menus (with or without instructions); organize kitchen supplies, cleanup and preparation of meals according to the specific dietary needs of the employer and their respective family.
CHAUFFEUR/DRIVER
Most candidates must have superb driving skills along with defensive driving, and have an excellent provable safety driving record. Duties include driving, scheduling maintenance, detailing and complete responsibility of all vehicles.
